Karen is a native Southern Californian and graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a major in liberal arts and minors in English and Art. She taught at Murrieta Valley High School for twenty years before retiring early to care full time for her special needs daughter. The unexpected benefit of early retirement was the renewed passion she found for art. She works in a variety of mediums from mosaic, acrylic painting, mixed media, but her passion lies in colored pencil and portraits of animals. Her work has been shown in galleries of Murrieta, Fallbrook, Temecula, and San Diego. Her commissions can be seen in private collections throughout California and the United States. She has won numerous awards for her artwork and is regularly commissioned by private parties and businesses, including a local school district. She has recently relocated to downtown San Diego and is a member of Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park and President of the local chapter of Colored Pencil Society of America.
